I am a weaver of tapestries and a painter:  the media inform one another as I work.  I am interested in the passage of time, and the changes that are inevitable in our lives and in nature.  The changing seasons, life passages, and moments in time that are transcendent occupy my thoughts when I am designing.  My process in both media is time intensive. In tapestry, this is by definition.  Images are built slowly, architecturally, row by row.  I use not only wool on linen weft, but often weave fabric, paper or soft objects into the tapestry, or attach objects to the finished piece.  I think of these objects as carriers of secrets, wishes, and little prayers.  I am utterly, unashamedly seduced by color and texture.

Pamela Gibson has been weaving for 25 years.  She holds a BFA degree in craft from Oregon College of Art and Craft.   She maintains both a tapestry and a painting studio in Portland, Oregon.  She has completed tapestry commission for both residential and public venues, and has a special interest in tapestry in health care spaces.  She recently completed a commission for Oregon Health and Science University's Center for Women's Health in which objects provided by the patients, doctors, donors and friends were incorporated into the piece.
