Anton Veenstra’s Statement

I began weaving because the woven cloth seemed to stir a visceral reaction. I weave portraits, landscape and quiet moments in the wild universe. Tapestry has an integrity for me that is important: threads sit alongside others in a tapestry but retain an autonomy. For me, the woven work has colour, texture and luminosity.

Anton Veenstra’s Biography

I completed a Master of Design [Hons] in 2003 at the College of Fine Arts; my supervisor was the renowned weaver Liz Williamson. My studio work involved tracking my family migration to Australia after World War 2. My work has been exhibited in San Francisco, Washington and Orlando, USA as well as Italy and France, and national art events in Australia.
