Cheryl Holbert’s Statement

The first thing I recall asking for as a young child was dance lessons. I have always been deeply intrigued with movement and as a weaver, I invite my tapestries to dance with me.
Cross Current, Flame Swept and Sprouting are abstracted moments – pauses, if you will – in the dance I often find myself in. A subtle water current, single flicker of a flame or unseen energy of a sprout springing forth reminds me that even in stillness, everything that lives, moves.

Cheryl Holbert’s Biography

I began weaving tapestries as a way to cultivate solitude in my very active life. What I discovered was yet another way to dance – this time amidst the still and quiet. I have had the privilege of learning from generous artists and teachers including James Koehler, Barbara Heller (through ATA’s Distance Learning Program) and Navajo weaver Jennie Slick and am honored to share my knowledge and growing experience with my own students and individuals in underserved communities through the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, NH.
