Purpose of ATA's Website

ATA has developed this site for a number of purposes. First, we wish to extend our mission goals to the on-line environment. Our goals include developing a wide-spread awareness of the development of contemporary tapestry in North America as an art form, educating the general public about tapestry techniques, materials, images and meanings, and supporting our members by providing them with the necessary information and resources.

Second, we wish to expand our current membership and our programs as we grow in the future. In order to do this, we want to reach people who might know something about tapestry and who wish to know more; we want to encourage those who wish to try their hand at weaving tapestry; and, we also want people to find us – and the web provides an accessibility we have not previously enjoyed.

Lastly, we wish to document some of the achievements ATA and its members have attained. As these pages grow, we simultaneously write a sort of history for future generations.
