Sarah Warren’s Statement
I live in New Hampshire, in the foothills of the Northern Presidential Range. From my studio I gaze across my field up to the heights of Mt Washington, the highest peak in the Northeastern United States, where I am afforded an array of fascinating cloud formations, sunrises, sunsets, alpine glow, and feasts of color as the days and the seasons morph. I am constantly analyzing colors, patterns of light, and the angles of the mountain ridges, imagining how to turn what I see into tapestry.
My goal as a tapestry artist is to communicate the peace and well-being I feel sitting on a mountain-top, gazing at the distant peaks and ridges, watching soaring birds at play on the thermals that rise from the valley below.
Sarah Warren’s Biography
I began weaving in 2001 when I took a class in landscape tapestry taught in Santa Fe, NM. With a background in watercolor painting, knitting, and needlepoint, I quickly became enthralled with the process of “painting with wool.” In addition to taking five studio classes with James Koehler, I have continued my study of color theory, design, and weaving technique by taking ATA workshops.
I became a juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen in January 2007. My tapestries are on display at five of their galleries. 2012 will be my fifth year as an exhibitor at the Annual Craftsmen Fair at Sunapee, NH, a nine day event in early August. This is a wonderful opportunity not only to display and sell my tapestries, but also to explain the art of tapestry weaving to the many people who visit my booth.
