Beverly Walker’s Artist Statement

While fiber is the hallmark of my varied creations, handwoven tapestry is the passion most spotlighted. My background in oil, acrylic, pastel, and watercolor painting fuses color theory and compositional skills with my love of fibers. The signature style is identified by varied surface textures achieved with textile manipulation and dimensional embellishments. A contemporary non-purist, I employ a wide variety of fibers from both nature and industry, along with the usual wools and hand-dyed mohair from my own goats. Inspirations surprise me from the surrounding world, sometimes from a color zone, or unrelated printed matter, or a petal shape in my flower garden. Then the designing faucet turns on and here we go…“turning fiber into fine art.…”

Beverly Walker’s Artist Biography

Beverly Walker’s award-winning reputation has arisen from several media including not only tapestry, but also contemporary stitchery, wrapped and coiled basketry, hand-painted silk wall décor, assemblages, and mixed media paintings. A recent tapestry was juried into an international exhibit, and Paramount Pictures engaged her to produce a tapestry for the movie, “Fun Size.” Walker loves to teach with workshop offerings that include a plethora of topics on skills developed through years of self-study, conference workshops, courses at the University of Kentucky, and advanced classes at West Dean College in Chichester, England.
