Beverly Walker’s Statement

Texture has become the hallmark of my tapestries. Through 16 years of tapestry weaving, my signature style has evolved from the traditionalist to the innovative, incorporating multiple animal, plant, and industrial fibers. While the content ranges between abstracted natural images and enhanced geometric designs, I prefer a textured surface acquired by varied fiber disciplines or added embellishments.

I am challenged to perform the unusual, to stretch out of traditionalism to the contemporary. While joy comes from creating artful works, great satisfaction comes from sharing tapestry techniques through the teaching of workshops.

Beverly Walker’s Biography

My diverse art education spans over 30 years, with weaving instruction at University of Kentucky under Arturo Alonza Sandoval, followed by tapestry self-study, conference workshops, and a program of advanced tapestry techniques at West Dean College, Chichester, England, under Pat Johns, Master Designer-Weaver.

Many awards have been received in tapestry and other art media including silk painting, coiled basketry, and contemporary stitchery. I am an art instructor at galleries, and have taught workshops in a variety of disciplines in several states, at conferences as well as independently and at the regional college level.
