Artist Statement

A black and white photo from the Oregon Legislative Archives, and the colors of David Hockney’s landscapes inspired this tapestry of the Wilsonville Bridge, a railroad bridge that has since been replaced. The sinuous curve of the Willamette, the bare winter trees and the colorful fields attempt to capture the emotion of the Wilsonville area before it turned into a suburb of Portland.

Terry Olson has been creating tapestries, many of which depict the landscape of Oregon, for nearly 30 years. She teaches tapestry at Damascus Fiber Arts School and at regional workshops. She serves as the Director of Education for the American Tapestry Alliance.
