Tapestry on the Edge is sponsored by The Nordic Heritage Museum and Tapestry Artists of Puget Sound (TAPS). Artists from California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska were invited to submit work that “push[es] the edges of tapestry technically and/or conceptually.” Juror Rock Hushka, Curator, Tacoma Art Museum selected forty five tapestries from thirty one artists.
TAPS was founded in 1990 for the exchange of techniques, philosophy and inspiration within the world of tapestry. The group provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and an opportunity for critical review through discussion, exhibition and publication. Each artist has developed and refined a body of work that expresses a unique vision and commitment to the art form.
TAPS would like to thank all of the artists whose continued dedication to contemporary tapestry has made this exhibition possible. We would also like to thank Marianne Forssblad, director of the Nordic Heritage Museum , for her ongoing commitment to providing a showcase for art textiles and Michael Rohde for preparing this exhibition for the web.
