About ATA’s Members’ Meet-Ups
The Members’ Meet-Ups provide an opportunity for members to gather and discuss topics related to tapestry weaving. The program is free for any member of ATA and is held virtually as our membership includes people from around the world. Usually held on the first Saturday of every other month, the program features members who share their work, studio, design processes, or technical skills with members. Join the conversation and learn first-hand from the amazingly talented members who make ATA the primary source of inspiration for tapestry weavers. Sign up by going to the Member Login section of our website. Members will need to enter the current password to register for this free event.
Our next facilitator will be ATA Member, Julia Mitchell who will present a talk on eccentric wefts in tapestry, how they influenced her, and how she uses them. Julia first found tapestry when she was 15, studying art history, design, and weaving. The work being produced in Wissa Wassef’s workshop in Cairo was electrifying to Julia, for its exuberance and childlike vision, and especially for its sense of movement. At the same time her teacher, Edith Reckendorf, gave her a book on contemporary Czech tapestry which shared extraordinary liveliness of imagery. Eccentric wefts were the key to this freedom and sense of motion, and Julia began using them from the beginning. Join us Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 9 am Pacific, 10 am Mountain, 11 am Central, and 12 pm (Noon) Eastern.
