Klaus Anselm’s Statement

Always having had an interest in fiber art I didn’t start weaving until 1998, one year prior to my retirement from the practice of medicine. I started with a workshop in weaving technique at the Sangre de Cristo art center in Pueblo, co then during the next years attended workshops at the Taos Institute of Arts, given by rose vigil and James Koehler. In 2005 I furthered my education by participating in a 2 week workshop at the Penland School of Crafts on colour and design also given by James Koehler.

While I have woven a number of pieces on commissions I have also entered and shown my work at “Fiber Celebrated 2005”, “Fiber Celebration 2006”, a group show at the Sangre de Cristo art center, the fine art show of the Colorado state fair, the Taos Wool Festival and the upcoming “Craftforms 2006” in Pennsylvania.

Klaus Anselm’s Biography

In weaving tapestries I am taken by the possibilities of design and color composition, the opportunity of maximum expression with minimum of detail. I have found inspiration through the art of Richard Diebenkorn, Oscar Bluemner, Louis Barragan and most of all through my friend, mentor and critic James Koehler.
